Let’s be honest: if you want your Whoop 4.0 band to fit on a Whoop 5.0, you’re dealing with a completely unnecessary hardware mismatch. The new 5.0 connector is off by less than a millimeter—just enough to lock you out.
So what do people do? They get creative.
1. Dremel the Hook (Most Popular)
The no-BS approach. If you want to use a Whoop 4.0 band on a 5.0 device, you must shave down the hook—there’s no way around it.
- Use a Dremel with a fine sanding bit
- Carefully shave the outer edge of the hook
- Test the fit as you go—when it hooks onto the 5.0 U shaped bracket bar, you’re set
This works. It’s also ridiculous that you have to do it. But if you want to stay with your favorite strap and don’t mind a little DIY, this is the move. Then you gotta take the sliding attachment from your new 5.0 or...
2. 3D Print the 5.0 Sliding Attachment
Designers have already modeled the Whoop 5.0 sliding rail, allowing you to attach it to non-OEM bands and old Whoop 4.0 bands. If you’ve got a 3D printer (or know someone who does), download an STL file, print it, and build your own connector that your favorite bands can slide into.
This lets you keep using your old whoop bands without any destructive mods.
3. 3D Print or Fabricate an Adapter
Some users are going the another route—printing adapters that sit between your 4.0 sliding attachment and the 5.0 body. This lets you preserve your band and your device without filing or modifying anything.
They're clunky but clever. And they work. Personally, if you're going to 3D print the sliding attachment you might as well print the real deal.
4. Buy another Fresh Strap
You could always skip the grinding, printing, and Frankenstein mods and just get a band that fits.
We may be building fully compatible Whoop 5.0 bands because frankly, this connector change was unnecessary and anti-customer. Whoop told us they’d go after anyone selling replacements—but they didn’t touch the flood of Chinese sellers on Amazon or even contact the other DTC brands. Its hard to believe The Fresh Strap is the only brand on their radar since others spam the Reddit and the Chinese guys on Amazon rank above Whoop brand listings. Since we were the only ones singled out, we aren't sure what to make of it. More news to come...
